Acne is a condition that has many different forms.  Most people do not know this and they just think of acne as one thing.  However, there are different severity levels and different types as well.  It is a good idea to learn about and know the different types of acne.  Here is an introduction to the different primary types of acne as well as some secondary acne types.

Definition of Acne

Acne is a skin condition wherein there appears inflamed red spots, called pimples and cysts on the skin.  Acne is generally experienced by adolescents but adults can have it as well.  Depending upon the severity of the acne, it can be itcy and leave scars if not taken care of.  It can occur on the face and also the back and torso.

Acne Vulgaris

One of the primary types of acne, this type of skin problem is characterized by blackheads, whiteheads and even scaly skin.  This is a very common type of acne.  This type of acne does respond well to treatment.  It can also improve from certain dietary modifications.  Stress reduction can also help this type of acne as well.

Acne Rosacea

Generally, acne rosacea is characterized by inflamed or irritated skin.  Sometimes this condition can be caused by a skincare product or appear as an allergic response.  This often appears on the nose, cheeks, eyelids and forehead.  There are particular dietary and lifestyle modifications that can help with this type of acne.

Acne Conglobata

Acne Conglobata is a very severe inflammation of the skin that often involves infection as well.  It has a correlation with testosterone, thus it occurs more commonly in men.  In this type of acne, many abscesses appear on the skin of the face, back, neck and torso.  There is a high likelihood of scarring in this type of acne and therefore antibiotics are often prescribed to combat it.  Sometimes, oral steroids are also prescribed in this as well as secondary acne forms.

Acne Fulminans

This is a highly severe type of acne that can come as a result of steroid use.  It actually affects the joints, bringing with it fever and pain.  Sometimes, it is a result of poorly treated or untreated acne conglobata.  It involves severe inflammation of the sebaceous glands in the skin. Many people with acne fulminans find that they experience damaged self esteem from people staring at them and making remarks about their skin.  In many cases, people with acne fulminans need some counseling as well as treatment in order to combat what they have gone through with social stigma that may come along with acne fulminans.  It can be hard physically as well as psychologically to have this problem.

The above are some of the primary types of Acne.  The Acne types range in severity from mild to severe.  Acne Vulgaris, Acne Rosacea, Acne Conglobata and Acne Fulminans are some of the primary types of acne that one may be diagnosed with.  Many people suffer with acne and luckily there are many effective acne treatments available.
